Len,
If you are studying the artillery of the Army of Tennessee, a area very seldom thought of is the artillery after the defeat at Nashville and the helter-skelter retreat down through central Tennessee, the losses were enormous. It started at Nashville, down to the Tennessee river, across into northwestern Alabama to Corinth where it finally rested but only for a short time. Further movements were made down the Mississippi Railroad route. Around this time was when the batteries in the worse shape were detached and sent to Mobile. Fourteen batteries made this march. Other made the march by rail, boat, horse and wagon to Macon Georgia. A few batteries stayed here with the last Chief of Artillery of the Army of Tennessee, Maj Gen Arnold Elzey. Two artillery battalions were rebuilt and reorganized and sent to the army in North Carolina, passing through Augusta Georgia. The final action at Salisbury in April, 1865 was another disaster with the lost of all of the guns, caissons, limbers and half of the men. It is hard to get info of these movements so dig deep. Ferguson's South Carolina Battery was in this action, under the command of Capt. Rene Beauregard.
Hope this helps
Ron
