Colonel Josiah Gorgas

I find it odd that an discussion page concerning civil war artillery has not had a post about Colonel Josiah Gorgas. I would like to end this great oversight and get your thoughts concerning Colonel Gorgas of the CSA Ordnance Bureau in Richmond. What are your thoughts about the manner in which the first generation foundries were established for the confederates early in the war such as Bennett & Lurges, T. M. Brennan, Quinby & Robinson and others, in 1861-2? Do you Have information and details concerning the establishment of the second generation foundries, such as Macon, Augusta, Columbus and maybe Selma? In my humble opinion, I believe Col. Gorgas to be the most efficient bureau chief of any in the Confederate War Dept. I'm looking forward to your imput about this man and the CSA Ordnance Dept.
