Thanks for the response. I pretty sure the shell was fired by a boat from the Brownwater fleet since the shell was found near the lower Arkansas River. The Confederate's had no land artillery of this size in the area that the shell was found. I am trying to positively identify the size of the shell, and then I can start researching boats that carried an 8 inch smoothbore.
