John, thanks for the response.

What I'm seeking, however, is knowledge of how the BAGS were tied
closed (if indeed they were), rather than how they might have been
further secured to something else. The "simple knot" referred to
previously is, again, like the shoelace-start initial crossing, and is
part of the Constrictor knot--what distinguishes it from a Clove
Hitch, and what makes it so secure. However, it's not a knot usually
show as a bag/sack binder; but the fidelity of knots books to reality
must be questioned!
