Brent's memoirs have proven to be a quite readable record of his getting involved in the Confederacy and his involvement in operations under Magruder and Lee in Virginia.
Unfortunately, this memoir closes with his leaving the Virginia area and still leaves me with a pile of questions regarding his service and experiences in Louisiana as an ordnance officer.
The opening flyleaf of the memoirs contains a photographic image of a portrait done of J.L. Brent in Confederate uniform that has since disappeared. It's the only service image of Brent I have managed to conger.
