Mr. Blades,

I saw your comment about Lyman Bridges. My great grandfather served in his command, the First Battalion of the Pioneer Brigade, during the Battle of Stones River. There is a fascinating report from Captain Bridges detailing his Battalion's activities during this battle. If you aren't aware of this resource, it's one of the very best from Cornell University's "Making of America" site. It's the digitized compilation of the "War of the Rebellion" compilation. This was a gigantic undertaking in the later part of the 19th century, a compilation of thousands of documents relating to the armies and navies of the Civil War. If you search Pioneer Brigade, James Saint Claire Morton (his commander) or even Bridges, you should find some information. Here's the link to Bridges report after the Battle of Stone's River in 1862-63. Hope you enjoy it.

By the way, I'd enjoy seeing an image of your sword. What a great thing to have!

Sincerely,

Brian McMurdo
