Mr. Martin
George,
once again you have posted incredible information on my 2x great grandfather. I will be going to those links you have.
is all this information in the public domain? can I copy and paste it to facebook or an email without causing some copyright
infringement law suite? I would like to pass it on.

my family history says, and I have not found anything to confirm this, that Samuel and a mr. duran (going from memory, not a good thing)
who maybe the second lieutenant of the company while Samuel was in it, provided the horses and perhaps other equipment when the company was formed. they were later reimbursed by the federal government. I can do the looking if you could provide any possible links to a source
of records that might confirm that family story. that might be asking for more than the records might show.

I noticed on one of you posts that the report came from camp sherer in Arkansas. at some point, smith's cavalry became sherer's cavalry and then became part of the 15th. Was there a Capitan sherer or did the name come because of the camp connection? I have found listings for jenk's, smith's and sherer's cavalry on the civil war notebook blog on theblogspot.com. I don't know why I'm expecting you to have all the answers here. I'm placing to much demand on your time.

Michael Elliot and I have done a little emailing and we both have relatives who served in the Illinois 127th. infantry company E. he sent me a newspaper photo from 1914 at a g.a.r. reunion of the two men sitting at a table together. wow! and I'm waiting to hear back if it is his man in a photo I have from the 1897 reunion of the g.a.r. or it might have been only for the 127th. I'm not sure. if it is his man in that photo then I also have him in another photo of young men from about 1861-62 when they would have been enlisting. this stuff just keeps getting better!
thanks very much,
mike
