The Illinois in the Civil War Message Board

Paul Ellsworth

My great grandfather, Paul Ellsworth, was a private in Company B, 5th Michigan Cavalry, Custer's Brigade. After returning home from the war, he became a stone mason and traveled all over the country following his trade. He died in Chicago in 1892 and is buried in Graceland Cemetery in Chicago. The location of his grave is documented by the good folks at Graceland, but there is no headstone. I applied for a veteran's headstone through the VA and it has been received at Graceland this week. They will be setting it in the near future.

Is there a CW group in Illinois who might have an interest in this news? Just wondering. I live in Texas where the SCV will often perform a ceremony of some type, but I am unfamiliar with Illinois. Any feedback would be appreciated.
