George M. Barrett, 1844-1929, Civil War Veteran, Company B, 1st Cavalry, 28th Regiment Indiana Volunteers is the subject of a book, "Fly Like the Wind", by Bridgette Z. Savage. I haven't read the book, but it is written for middle schoolers and relates the story - oral tradition in the family - of adventures of George and his horse during the war. The website has photos. The horse was so famous that his skeleton is in a local museum. I just wanted to share this unusual bit of 1st Indiana Cavalry history.
