I doubt any "battery" was carrying sabers in 1863. Cavalry style or not. Why would they? Confederate regulations stopped the issue of sidearms early in the war. They found that cannoneers were more likely to shoot their revolvers from a protected position rather than tend their piece. An artilleryman's weapon is the big one on wheels. Officers may have carried a Model 1840 artillery saber. And early in the war Federals were issued them down to the rank of corporal. Single loop hand guard and extreme blade curve. The Model 1832 artillery sword was used more as a bush axe for clearing roads and firing positions than as an offensive OR defensive weapon. Tend the gun. The one on wheels.
