Re: Robinson's Co., Howitzer Btry., 1st La. Cav.

Forgot to say in above post that the battery had 4 10 pound Parrott rifles during time commanded by Capt. Robinson, Jun to Dec 1863.
During period commanded by Capt Wm Holmes, sept 1861 to Jun 1863, do not know armament of battery.
During period commanded by Capt Eugene Holmes, March to Oct 5, 1864, battery was armed with two 12 pound howitzers and two 6 pound smoothbore guns. Note that these guns, even for the confederates, were considered old and obsolete at this period of the war. The poor armament of this battery is perhaps a clue why it saw little service until being overwhelmed and mostly captured by the federals on October 5th, 1864.

The sources for this is Art Bergeron's book earlier cited and my index card file of Confederate batteries.
