they're praising the awarding of medals to some guy who shoots at people after he's surrendered!
How did he know that the Union Forces had surrendered. He was not with his unit, no field of view of where Col. Miles was at on the battlefield. He sent out to find ordance for the 15th earlier in the day and stopping at two different locations he finds an artillery piece not being fired. Men (boys) hiding in a gully with no officer in sight. He was told that the officer left on horseback because of the intense firing that was going on. This young man at the age of 22 took it upon himself to get the piece back firing again, since at their postion they were still under intense in-bound firing. If their was not any inbound firing taking place, I agree that Frederick should have been brought up on charges, but this was not the case. I think it would be wise if you could read the entire chapter of Dark Days of the Civil War-Volume I dealing with these actions and then you could make a judgement call, in hindsight.
