Re: David Kendall found and also a deserter

Hello again Angela, if you see this please get back to me ASAP. I will show you where the articles are located. I should note that Henry C. Kendall changed his middle name after deserting both the Confederate Army and Union Cavalry to Henry M. Kendall. He was one in the same. It's also interesting to note that his father-in-law after the War was in charge of finding Union deserters. His name was Wilkins. I've often wondered if the father-in-law knew the real story? I'm sure his wife Caroline did.

According to the Archives in Connecticut, Private Kendall deserted with his uniform sword and side arm belt, etc. The 1st Connecticut Cavalry was stationed in Harpers Ferry when Kendall deserted. It is also interesting to note that is where Henry Kendall grew up as a boy. He moved to Coshocton County Ohio and lived within a stones throw of another Confederate deserter (his brother David) who also had been in the 8th Virginia with Henry. A third Kendall brother had also been with the 8th Virginia but died of disease during the War.
