According to Marshall's report of the battle, 1st Ohio Battery G held three different postions during the battle. The first was on Winstead Hill supporting the skirmish line and most likely firing shell. The second was at Wagner's advanced line, where according to Wiley Sword in his book "Embrace An Angry Wind", Mitchell's section of Battery G opened with shot and shell and finished with canister before withdrawing. The final postion was on the Union left by the railroad, where as Marshall state they opened with canister.
