I can't see why an artillery officer would fire canister at such a long range. Especially from a rifled gun. In a rifled tube the shot from a canister round tends to string itself out into a long column instead of a spread pattern. This is because the canister leaves the tube with a spinning motion. The rounds would have been fairly ineffective.
