There is a listing in the O.R. of a Lt. McDaniel of Capt. Bomar's company as garrisoning a two gun 32 pdr battery section on Sullivan's Island in April of 1864. This appears to be the Chestatee Artillery.

There is also a listing of a Sgt. McDaniel with two guns of Wiggins' battery in Jan. 1865 by Col. G.G. Dibrell.
I just came across McDaniel's Artillery as an alternate name for Wiggins' Artillery.

Wiggins' unit had many commanders and seems to have had a wide ranging service. That it would eventually devolve down to the command of a Sgt. is little suprise considering its small (at times just a section?) size and the number of Lt.'s that commanded it before.
